Where to Dance
Unfortunately, it's not always easy to find a great place to go
dancing. Large dance floors require a lot of overhead,
which means they need to be packed with people (not so great for
dancing) or the dancers need to eat, drink, and be merry to help
pay the bills. Patronize the places that these local bands
play, subscribe to dancelist, and support your local Swing Club
to help keep the dance floors open.

Practice
Dances at the Dance Street Ballroom - These ~monthly
dances are a great way to maintain your skills and to see what
all of the dance styles look like. It's also a friendly way to
ease into dancing in public! The advanced students and
instructor are always happy to answer questions and take you for
a spin on the floor, in a supportive (not scary) atmosphere. Admission is free to current
students and their guests. Others are welcome at only $5
per person.
We usually
start at 6 with social hour (potluck finger-food snacks such as
pretzels, fruit trays, etc. to share, and your preferred
beverage to drink - mine happens to be red wine.) At 7 we
have a mini-lesson in whatever I feel like teaching, and around
7:20 we start dancing to variety music. There's usually a
lot of Swing (East & West), a good amount of Latin, and a
smattering of Smooth, with plenty of Nightclub too! The attire is
generally casual (unless a theme is mentioned) and feel free to bring not-yet-dancing
friends so they can see what the fun is all about. Watch
the calendar for dates/times.
Dance
Parties at the Dance Street Ballroom - These are
slightly legendary events that happen a few times each year.
All dancers and their guests are welcome! The format
is always potluck appetizers & desserts, cocktail attire or a
particular theme depending on the party, bring your own favorite
beverage, and $10 per person to our charity of choice.
We have a social hour, a mini-lesson, then open dancing until
we've all had enough. There are often dancing games
involved. Watch the calendar for dates/times!
Spokane Swing Dance Club -
Dance
to a
variety of music – West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Waltz,
Rumba, Cha Cha, Night Club Two Step and some country. Their
bi-monthly dances are usually held at the German-American Haus
on 3rd & Division in downtown Spokane. At the
beginning of the dance, 6pm, a dance lesson is offered for all
to enjoy. The lessons feature a different dance from
different instructors each time.
